Seder Hayom (6): Renewing Faith

In the First Thoughts post we mentioned that one of the main things we should be focusing on is the kabbalas ol malchus shomayim. See Seder Hayom (3): First Thoughts, from the Cherkasser and Reb Motele that a person should think about the fact that he was recreated in the morning for the sole purpose of revealing Hashem in every thing that we do, through acting in accordance with His will.

In another maamer in Pele Yoetz (Shelach, Reishis), Reb Motele, zy”a, quotes the Zohar Hakadosh (Behar, 108a) that one must accept the yoke of Heaven as does an ox when the yoke is placed upon it. Reb Motele explains, “Just like an ox cannot turn away from the yoke, not to the right nor the left, so too must a person accept upon himself the yoke of Heaven not to turn right or left from the will of Hashem.”

Seder Hayom (5): Why Thought?

Recently in the Seder Hayom series, we explored the first thoughts that are desirable for one to think at the beginning of the day, according to the seforim of Hornosteipel. Related to the Seder Hayom series, I discovered a source in Keser Shem Tov (a collection of the teachings from the Baal Shem Hakadosh and the Mezritcher Magid) that speaks about the concept of being mekadesh the three garments of the soul.

Seder Hayom (3): First Thoughts

Previously, we learned that immediately upon awaking in the morning one should be mekadesh, (consecrate) the three garments of the soul. Of course this applies to all three facets of human expression including action and speech, but the seforim place a greater emphasis on thought. In this post, let's take a look at some of the specific thought processes that the seforim mention.

Seder Hayom (2): Kadesh Li Kol Bechor

I haven't written a halacha/seder hayom post since the first Modeh Ani post, so here goes.

In the Halacha Learning Program we have already learned the halachos of washing negel vasser immediately upon arising in the morning. In the sifrei avodah and Chassidus, however, we find that Divine service begins even before washing one's hands.

Seder Hayom (1): Modeh Ani

In conjunction with the shul's daily halacha initiative, I would like to complement the halachos we are learning with some insights into avoda with the words of the Rebbe and other tzadikim, specifically those who are connected to Hornosteipel, namely Beis Chernobyl, the Baal Hatanya, the Rebbe Reb Zisha, Sanz, Kantikuziv, etc. I doubt I will be able to post on this every day but b'siyata dishmaya I hope to stay more or less on schedule with the program.
