Yesterday (Monday) after the davening, the Rebbe spoke about the role of kingship in Judaism, and how a Jewish king must live in order to serve as the appropriate conduit between Klal Yisroel and Hashem.When a king is completely "self-negated" to Hashem and "his heart is not raised above his brothers," then loving the king serves as a tool to find love of Hashem.
But if the king is in it for personal reasons, then practically speaking it is very difficult not to fall into worship of the worldly king as opposed to the King of the World.
